Child’s play

October 31, 2011   Tags: bedroom, diy, kids, history

Anyone with kids knows that the little critters change their minds and tastes as fast as they sprout up. Thanks to Yaku designs, their imaginations can be fuelled with themed bedrooms that can be easily changed when the next craze hits.

Using simple, affordable furniture basics Yaku Design for Kids creates fantasy themed accessories, which can be easily installed and removed at home. You become the decorator, using the foolproof building blocks that fit together perfectly.

Themes such as bugs, princess, under the sea, safari, construction and jungle make use of headboards, toy boxes, bedside lights, wall art and soft furnishings that reflect the theme in fun, colourful and contemporary ways.

Started by conceptual designer Jaco van Straten, Yaku was created for all those parents who want to create a wonderland in their children’s bedroom without having to bring in an interior decorator.

In three easy steps a themed room can be achieved. First, pick your furniture items, second your theme, and lastly the accessories you would like to use. “It’s like paint by numbers,” says Jaco, “and there are sixteen themes to choose from.”

And when it’s time to update to a different theme, separates can be purchased, like a new headboard, coloured drawers and soft furnishings. All the furniture accessories are easy to remove, as most make use of detachable clips.

Jaco says he is also able to create custom themes. So whatever your little one's greatest fantasy is, Yaku Designs can bring it to life.

All the furniture and accessories are made locally and Jaco says the Yaku in the Box, which is a toy box filled with themed accessories, makes an excellent gift. Perfect for the fast-approaching festive season.
