Bokehmobiles

During his visit to NAIAS 2012, VISI online editor Dylan Culhane took time out to create some surreal photographic images amidst the plethora of sleek, polished automobiles on show.

The series, entitled 'Bokehmobiles', employs the technique of Bokeh (a Japanese term referring to "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light") to effectively sketch images of cars with light. By defocusing a telephoto lens and opening the aperture as wide as possible, points of light are rendered as a series of soft circles. The result is an interesting study in the minimal amount of visual information required to discern a distinguishable form; a meditation of our inherent ability to see design in the aether of light and colour.
