Fifties fun at Greenpoint salon

May 31, 2011   Tags: retro, decor, parlour

Most girls love a salon pamper session, and we particularly fancy a session at Petticoat Parlour, the new beauty salon on the Greenpoint strip.

Inspired by the classic retro American diner look, owner Wendy Chait was inspired by the look and feel of diners throughout the USA.

"I've always been really taken with the 1950s look, as it was a dynamic time in history," she says. "In terms of decor, it gave way to bold ideas and a marked contrast between colours. There were also so many great icons to come out of the 50s, some of whom adorn the walls of the salon. Our pièce de résistance though is definitely the pedicure station with its comfy, fuchsia-pink leather booths that contrast dramatically with the turquoise of the manicure station.”

The themed decor is carried all the way through to the sweet nibbles on offer. Guests with a sweet tooth also have the opportunity to purchase red velvet cupcakes and Frankie’s old-fashioned sodas while waiting for their beauty technician.
