Win a Misfit
VISI happened upon Misfit, a true retrospective of the work of Dutch designer, Hella Jongerius. The content and the book itself are so beautiful that we decided to share a copy with one lucky VISI reader.
The book, entitled Misfit, follows the decidedly original Dutch designer from 1933 to the present. The monograph focuses in on Hella’s brave move from the world of producing design items in large numbers to limited editions.
Says Hella: “I am fascinated by the industrial scale production and the process that transforms a mass-produced object into a unique piece; the added value of something handmade; the invention of the craftsman.”
Hence the name Misfit which embodies the idea of granting dignity to diversity, to everything that does not conform to what is traditionally accepted as being beautiful and perfect.
Misfit is the most comprehensive monograph of Hella’s work, with over 300 images of her designs arranged according to colour. Written by Louise Schouwenberg and designed by Irma Boom, the book is a covetable design item in itself.
VISI has always been a huge fan of Hella’s work, with a particular soft spot for her Polder Worker sofa and collections of vessels. Although these items sit only in our Covet boxes at present, owning a real-life copy of Misfit is certainly a close second.
Watch the video below to find out more about this design powerhouse and the book that documents her creative journey.
