Join us on tour of this sophisticated space in one of the Cape’s finest country estates. When homeowner Lurien Rawson moved from Johannesburg to Cape Town, and built a home in the prestigious Pearl Valley Estate near Paarl, she turned to the skills of interior designers Dawn Dickerson and Carmel Naudé of Hot Cocoa Interiors and Design to help her create a look that is in line with the earthiness of the rural Western Cape landscape. The result of this collaboration is a sophisticated contemporary space with a distinctly countryside aesthetic. At first glance Lurien’s home is an uncluttered, serene and hi-tech space, but take a closer look at the sentimental touches and its true DNA is revealed: this is a family home designed to be lived and worked in, a sanctuary, a place of freedom and, of course, a work in progress.

DURBANVILLE HOME

Cost: R175 per person (R115 for students – limited allocation of student tickets available)

Don’t miss our tour of Cornel and Marlize de Jongh’s serene and contemporary home in Durbanville. A testament to the dedication and vision of its creative owners, this space is awash in neutral tones and raw textures. Many of the signature features, such as the jaw-dropping steel and glass wine-rack wall in the dining area, were designed and fashioned by Cornel himself. While on the outside deck the small, raised, circular swimming pool takes its inspiration from the farm dams of Cornel and Marlize’s youth and is another example of the anecdotal features that pepper this property. Weathered wood, raw steel and concrete are used throughout to create a seamless flow between the contemporary indoor and outdoor spaces in this stylishly reinvented home.
