The grand Radisson Collection Hotel Strand, Stockholm in all of its 170-room glory has reopened its doors after a total revamp by Swedish architectural studio Wingårdhs.
The full renovation left no corner untouched and the once outdated space now boasts contemporary luxury and swanky design. Dating back to the 1912 Olympics, this historically rich hotel was once frequented by dazzling stars like Greta Garbo, Frank Sinatra and Audrey Hepburn.
The focus of the redesign was to bring forth the historical eccentricities of the building. Polished oak and walnut are juxtaposed with gentle textures and opulent colour schemes. “Strand Grey” is a newly introduced, custom grey tone that runs throughout the hotel alongside unmistakable design classics such as the 2097 Chandelier from FLOS and the Swan Chair from Fritz Hansen.
Lobby walls, event spaces, guest rooms and the restaurant walls function as an exhibition space for Swedish firm Young Art‘s young designers and artists. Guest rooms offer repurposed furnishings in an effort to breathe new life into spaces without losing the hotel’s ageless charm. Moody colour palettes are interrupted only by the whites of window frames in an effort to draw the awe-inspiring Nybroviken views in. Guests can enjoy a Greta Garbo cocktail at the authentic Swedish Strand Brasserie and Bar, headed up by Chef Richard Williamson.
